My Approach

My approach to therapy is integrative and humanistic, incorporating neurobiology, transactional analysis, person centred and gestalt methods. I am inspired by Babette Rothschild, who said, “The stable foundation formed by a wide variety of theories and principles makes it possible for every therapy to be nuanced and individually tailored to the needs of a specific client.” I am passionate about therapy being a collaboration with the client, not something 'done to' them or without their knowledge, and I work ethically within the BACP code of practice at all times.

As a psychotherapist, counsellor and trainer I work, and have worked, in a diverse range of settings and contexts. I love the variety of my roles and relish the fact that no two days are the same. Over the last few years I have worked in primary and secondary schools, an NHS Emotional Wellbeing Team, and my own private practice. I completed my training at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy in Newcastle and this required 450 clinical hours' practice with children and adults.

My clients are at the centre of all I do, during and in preparation for sessions, and I have monthly supervision to ensure I am working to the best of my ability and benefiting clients as much as possible. I also have peer supervision with other therapists where we share resources and training, and discuss our methods and experiences. Client confidentiality is never broken for supervision, which is always about my practice, never your process.

I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development and have completed additional recent training including:

- Polyvagal Institute certificate course (35 hours)
- Action Trauma: trauma summit 2024 (2 days)
- Safeguarding Children (level 2)
